Plantar Fasciitis FAQ by our Brentwood Chiropractor

Person with foot pain due to Plantar Fasciitis

Dr. Quinn Uzelman is a chiropractor in Brentwood TN who's worked with many people struggling with plantar fasciitis. This common condition responds well to the type of drug-free holistic care services offered at our clinic.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

The suffix "-itis" is your clue that this condition is related to inflammation, specifically, inflammation of the thick band of tissue that comprises the arch and underside of your foot. When this tissue becomes inflamed and irritated, a person can be said to have plantar fasciitis. It's typically due to excessive or abnormal strain on the heel and foot.

Who gets Plantar Fasciitis?

Anyone is at risk, but certain populations of people have a higher likelihood of developing plantar fasciitis, including:

  • People who are overweight
  • People who over train or do "too much too soon"
  • People who frequently run or jump, such as runners or dancers
  • People who stand a lot or have physically demanding jobs
  • People with very high or very flat arches

What are the symptoms of plantar fasciitis?

Perhaps the most common symptom of plantar fasciitis is sharp and stabbing heel pain. This pain is often worse first thing in the morning when you first get up. It can also worsen after prolonged bouts of standing.

People with plantar fasciitis may have to limp or be unable to bear weight. Their foot may be tender and there may also be some localized swelling.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help a Person Manage or Resolve Plantar Fasciitis?

Chiropractic care is a fantastic natural solution to plantar fasciitis pain and dysfunction. Here are a few things our doctor in Brentwood can offer you:

  • Spinal adjustments can restore normal alignment in your musculoskeletal system, thus improving joint alignment "upstream" from your ankles and feet and reducing excessive strain on your plantar fascia
  • Corrective exercises can be prescribed to improve the strength and flexibility of muscles in your hips and legs in order to provide better structural support around your ankles
  • Through nutritional counseling, we can even help you jumpstart a weight loss journey to restores your ideal body weight. Importantly, this will reduce the load imposed on your feet and also help you establish a healthier physical and mental/emotional relationship with food!
